Volleyball Hitting Percentage Calculator

How to Calculate Volleyball Hitting Percentage
Volleyball hitting percentage is a key statistic used to measure a player’s attacking efficiency. It indicates how successful a player is in converting attack attempts into kills while minimizing errors.
The formula for hitting percentage is:
Hitting Percentage = (Kills – Errors) ÷ Total Attack Attempts
Step-by-Step Calculation
- Count the total number of kills (successful attacks that result in a point).
- Count the total number of attack errors (hits out of bounds, into the net, or blocked for a point by the opponent).
- Count the total attack attempts (all swings taken at the ball, including kills, errors, and those kept in play by the opponent).
- Subtract the errors from the kills to determine net kills.
- Divide by total attack attempts to get the hitting percentage.
Example Calculation
A player has the following stats in a match:
- Kills: 15
- Errors: 5
- Total Attack Attempts: 40
Using the formula:
Hitting Percentage = (Kills – Errors) ÷ Total Attack Attempts
Hitting Percentage = (15 – 5) ÷ 40
Hitting Percentage = 10 ÷ 40
Hitting Percentage = 0.250
So, the player’s hitting percentage is 0.250 or 25%.
Interpreting the Hitting Percentage
- Above .300 (30%) – Excellent
- .200 – .299 (20%-29.9%) – Good
- Below .200 (Under 20%) – Needs improvement
This statistic helps coaches and analysts assess a player’s offensive performance and efficiency in scoring points while minimizing mistakes.
